Excellent Family Companion!

Nanny is a snuggly yet playful girl that is people focused and loves to interact with us. Her playful demeanor and medium energy will make her the perfect playmate for children or as a wonderful family companion.

This pretty girl is expected to mature to around 35 - 40 lbs and possesses a soft and full medium wavy coat that will grow out into that incredible Teddybear cuteness that everyone loves!

On the learning front, Nanny is learning to go out the doggie door to potty and has begun going outside for training sessions. We are working on exposure to wheelchair, walker, stroller and shopping cart, beginning leash work and recall, lengthened crate training and not jumping up on people or furniture. We are super pleased with how this sweet girl is developing and look forward to introducing her to her new family!

See What I Have Been Learning!
Five Weeks Old

This has been an exciting week and we’ve grown a lot! Sound conditioning continues while we eat, we are using our litter box consistently, crate time has lengthened and we are now playing with each other, with toys and are interacting with Ron, Janet and our trainers. Janet thinks we are doing excellent for our age and are absolutely adorable.

Next week Janet will send over final details to prepare for puppy homecoming then individual pictures and temperament test results will be added on Thursday in preparation for puppy choice on Friday. We look forward to speaking with you all, enjoy the new video (this was the first time wearing collars, that’s why they were scratching a lot!)

Four Weeks Old

This past week we started beginner crate conditioning with a crate buddy so that we can slowly acclimate to sleeping in our crate. Marisa and Chasedy have also been holding us more, offering gentle cuddling, holding while walking around and inspecting my body/mouth examination, all preparation for handling without fear when we go to our new homes. Our trainers have also started conditioned emotional response exercises such as pulling our ears, hugging around our necks, ruffling our fur, handling and squeezing our paws and clipping our nails while eating Greek yogurt during each manipulation. We are learning to show a positive response, instead of a negative one so that we can handle the bumps and tugs that we might encounter with young children or special needs children/adults with my our new families. Janet thinks we are doing great in preparation for our upcoming temperament test and that our new families will love our sweet natures.

Today was bath day, don’t we look adorable! Enjoy the new pictures!

Three Weeks Old

This is going to be an important week for us! Our eyes are now fully open and we are beginning to respond to Marisa and Chasedy when they take us through our daily training. A litter box has been added to our nursery room and we are already searching it out to go potty in! We also finished up our Neurological Stimulation exercises and have started the next phase of our training and conditioning. Holding, cuddling and walking around during this development stage helps us to learn to be secure when being carried and handled.

At 21 days our ears began to open and we are beginning to hear. We don’t know much about science but research says that during the first week of hearing puppies have very little startle response to loud noises so Janet makes sure to take advantage of this time to begin conditioning us to accept these noises while we are eating. Doing something pleasant while we hear, startle and recover conditions us to ignore the scary noises that we will encounter in our future life. Daily sound conditioning will continue at each of our meals until we go home to our new family. We are getting used to hearing:

  • The sound of a running vacuum, force blow dryer and clippers

  • Slamming doors, gates and dropped objects

  • Honking horn and running car engine

  • CD containing noises such as thunder, wind storm, alarm clock, lawn mower, power saw, buzzers, bells, children playing, thumps, babies crying, bumps and much more

Today we received a bath in preparation for our update, we did great but some of us were pretty snoozy during our photo shoot. Enjoy this week’s pictures!

Two Weeks Old

Over the past week, we have really gained a lot of healthy weight and are starting to crawl around. Marisa and Chasedy are finishing up our Early Neurological Stimulation exercises and we are responding very well! Each day we accept the exercises a little bit better, giving us the perfect start towards developing a temperament that can go in whatever direction you need, whether it be for therapy, diabetic/seizure alert or as an excellent family companion. Click on the bold link to read over a more scientific description of the process and to watch a short video by author, trainer and AKC judge, Dr. Carmin Battaglia.

Our next litter update will be pictures after our bath and hopefully our eyes will be open! Enjoy the video below showing us going through our Early Neurological Stimulation exercises, aren’t we adorable!

One Week Old

Nala has given birth to thirteen, yes thirteen beautiful puppies! She had a long but normal delivery with Ron and Janet’s help and has been given oxytocin to expel any retained afterbirth and penicillin to ward off infection. She has received a bath and has settled in nicely with her new babies and she is being a great mother, as usual!

We have had a very busy first week tube feeding every two to three hours 24/7 to give the babies a good start. The puppies are now stable and are gaining weight and thriving and the need to tube feed has ended (yay, we were pretty sleep deprived!) The puppies spend most of the day nursing or sleeping and now spread out under the heat lamp instead of crowding around Nala to nurse constantly, this is a good sign that they are getting enough to eat and are content. Marisa and Chasedy are taking great care of the babies and they have started taking the puppies through their first stage of socialization.

We will be contacting everyone on the reserve list to confirm decisions on gender after we post their first pictures and video on Sunday. We look forward to sharing these sweet babies with you!
